CFDs are complex instruments and carry a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage.

Do the arithmetic before the trade.

Four calculators that answer the questions which decide the size of a position: how much margin, what a tick is worth, how many lots to risk, and what the trade pays.

Results are indicative. Contract specifications, account currency conversion and swap are applied by the platform at execution.

The formulas

What the calculator is doing.

CalculationFormulaWatch out for
Margin(Lots × contract size × price) ÷ leveragePrice is in the quote currency
Tick valueTick size × contract size × lotsGold and indices have different contract sizes
Position sizeRisk amount ÷ (stop ticks × tick value per lot)Slippage makes realised risk higher
Profit / loss(Exit − entry) × contract size × lots × directionExcludes spread, commission and swap

All values assume the quote currency is USD. For crosses, convert the quote-currency value to the account currency at the prevailing rate.

Margin is not risk

Margin is the collateral the broker requires. Risk is the distance to your stop multiplied by position size. A trade can use $100 of margin and still risk $1,000.

Round-turn costs

Add spread and commission to the profit/loss figure. On a Zero account, $7 per lot round turn is part of the cost even when the spread is zero.

Account currency

If your account is in INR or EUR, the platform converts the USD result at execution. The conversion rate is shown on the ticket before confirmation.

FAQ

Calculator questions.

Why does my platform show a different margin?

The platform uses the live price, your account currency conversion and the leverage tier applied to your equity. The calculator uses the values you enter and assumes USD.

Which stop distance should I enter?

The distance from entry to the structural level that invalidates the trade, plus the spread and expected slippage — not the distance you would like to risk.

Does the position size include commission?

No. The risk budget covers price movement only. Deduct commission and swap separately when comparing the expected cost of a trade.

Can I use these for crypto CFDs?

Yes, choose the BTCUSD preset or a custom contract. Confirm the contract size and tick value in the terminal before trading any instrument not listed.
